Why 1.42 matters
The inner display is roughly 1.42 against about 2.17 on iPhone 18 Pro. That is a different shape of screen, not a bigger one, and it drives most of the layout work:
- 16:9 video letterboxes. Fitted to width, a 16:9 frame occupies about 890 × 501 points and leaves roughly 125 points of bar split above and below — close to a fifth of the display. It is still a much larger picture than on a standard iPhone.
- Documents fit unusually well. 1.42 is close to √2, the proportion behind A-series paper. Reading views, feeds and two-column layouts suit it naturally.
- Full-bleed art cut for 2.17 will crop badly. Provide assets that tolerate a squarer frame, or compose around a focal point.
