What we do, and what it costs

Ingenious Techlab adapts existing iOS apps to iPhone Duo. The rest of this site is the reference we wrote while learning the device; this page is the work itself, with the commercial terms stated up front so you can decide without talking to anyone.

Not decided whether you need any of this? Start with scope, cost and timing — the three possible outcomes for an app, and five questions that place yours on the scale.

iPhone Duo audit

Start here

$299USD

A written report on what breaks, what it costs to fix, and what you can safely leave.

What you get

  • Every blocker found in your code, with file references
  • Effort estimate per item, and a suggested order
  • What to ship before 23 October and what can wait
  • A call to walk through it, if you want one
In more detail

We run our checklist against your actual codebase rather than a questionnaire, on every pose: closed, open, landscape, partially folded and in Split View. That is the difference between this and the free evaluation, which is based only on what you tell us.

You get a prioritised list — blockers first, then what merely looks dated — with an effort estimate against your stack, and the reasoning behind each call so your team can argue with it.

Report within five working days of getting access.

Implementation

From$1,999USD

We do the migration and hand back a pull request your team reviews.

What you get

  • Work delivered as reviewable pull requests, not a code dump
  • Your existing conventions and architecture, not ours
  • Tested across every pose in Device Hub
  • A short handover so the next change is yours to make
In more detail

SDK bump, layout fixes, adaptive containers, arrangements and reserved regions where they earn their place — plus the vertical bar work, which is the change users see first.

For React Native and Flutter apps this includes the native module or platform channel needed to reach the fold APIs, since neither vendor has shipped iPhone Duo support.

Scoped and quoted from the audit, so the number is based on your code.

Pre-ship review

$599USD

You did the work. We check it before your users do.

What you get

  • Findings ranked by what a user would notice
  • Reproduction steps for each one
  • A yes or no on whether we would ship it
In more detail

A second pair of eyes across every pose and both displays, aimed at the failures that do not show up in a simulator screenshot: asymmetric safe areas, content on the fold, frozen media in Split View, and orientation assumptions.

Within three working days.

Book a pre-ship review

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any local sales tax. Most visitors to this site are outside the United States, so if you would rather be quoted in your own currency, say so in your first email.

How it goes

  1. You send an email with your app and stack. No form maze, no discovery call.
  2. We reply within two working days with what we think is wrong and what it would take. That reply is free, and plenty of people stop there and fix it themselves.
  3. If you want us to continue we agree scope and a fixed price in writing before any work starts.

What we need from you

  • Read access to the repository, or a branch we can work on
  • A build that runs, and whatever setup notes your own team uses
  • One person who can answer product questions when the right layout is a judgement call

What we do not do

We do not build new apps from scratch, take on general iOS feature work, or do design-only engagements. This is adaptive layout and foldable support on apps that already exist. If your question is outside that, say so in your email and we will tell you honestly rather than take the work.

We also cannot promise a fix for something Apple has not finalised. Xcode 27.1 and the iPhone Duo simulator are still in beta and can change before release, which we track on the Xcode 27.1 status page.

Which stacks we work on

Every one of these has a guide on this site showing exactly what we would change and why. Read the guide for your stack before you decide you need us — plenty of teams do the work themselves from it, and that is a fine outcome.

Not sure which matters most for your app? All six scored side by side.

What the work actually involves

An iPhone Duo migration is rarely a rewrite. It is a known list of assumptions that stopped being true, found and replaced one at a time:

The full list is the compatibility checklist, which is free and needs no email.

Common questions

How much does iPhone Duo app development cost?

A fixed-price audit of an existing app is $299 USD. Implementation starts at $1,999 USD and is quoted from the audit, because the number depends on your code rather than on a price list. A pre-ship review of work you have already done is $599 USD. We do not build new apps from scratch.

How long does an iPhone Duo migration take?

The audit report arrives within five working days of getting repository access. Implementation depends on what the audit finds: a well-structured app that already adapts to iPad is usually days of work, and an app with fixed-width layouts throughout is weeks. We give a fixed price and a date in writing before starting.

Which frameworks do you work with?

SwiftUI and UIKit, where Apple ships first-party adaptive APIs, and React Native, Flutter, Unity and Capacitor, where no vendor has shipped iPhone Duo support and the fold needs a native module or platform channel. Each has its own guide on this site showing exactly what we would change.

Do you work alongside our own developers?

Usually, yes. Work is delivered as reviewable pull requests against your conventions, not as a code dump, and we hand over so the next change is yours to make. Plenty of clients take the audit and do the implementation themselves, which is a fine outcome.

Can you start before iPhone Duo ships?

Yes, and that is the point. Xcode 27.1 beta carries the iPhone Duo simulator, so your app can be tested in every pose now. Work finished before 23 October is work your users never see broken.

Technical questions rather than commercial ones? The developer FAQ covers screen dimensions, Xcode versions and what breaks.
